WELLBEING TIPS
COLD AND WELLBEING
A few days ago I was feeling pretty chipper then out of the blue I felt like I’d been hit by a ton of bricks. Exhausted, head pounding and undeniably ill! The brain fog descended.
It had such a noticeable impact on how I felt emotionally that I was intrigued to find out more. It turns out it’s not just our body diverting its energy towards our immune system but specifically our immune systems production of antiviral cytokines. These have a measureable impact on how our brain functions, even before the physical symptoms appear and for about a week after they’ve gone. The psychological effects include sluggishness, social withdrawal, poor concentration, lack of motivation and even depressed mood (Raison, 2006). I found it useful to know that it’s just my bodies normal response to fighting a virus and it will pass.
So for the next few days I’m going listen to my mind and body and slow down, a bit tricky with a toddler, but at least I have my entertainment sorted….and yes that it a swim nappy on her head!
