We are also in the midst of ‘Brexit’ – and what this might mean for Scotland and the United Kingdom is also far from clear. The coming months and years will no doubt tell us, but just as in the United States, the uncertainty surrounding our lives and our structures is worrisome for many folks. The future is certainly anything but dull!

I’m reminded of the lines from T. S. Eliot’s poem, ‘Little Gidding’ … “For last year’s words belong to last year’s language, And next year’s words await another voice. … and tomake an end is tomake a beginning.” As we enter a new year, and as we face new and uncertain prospects for our world and for our country, it is important we remember the certain and unchanging love of God in Jesus Christ, and the voices and memories of those who have gone before us in the faith. Our responsibility as God’s people in this place and at this time is to try to live out his love, justice and peace each and every day. Times and tides may change, politicians come and go – but God’s love endures forever. For … “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and for ever.” (Hebrews 13:8)

Shalom, Graeme
