MINOR HOTELS TO ADD 50 PROPERTIES TO PORTFOLIO

Minor Hotels is looking to add at least 50 more properties to its portfolio over the next five years. The expansion will involve the group moving into new destinations, including Anantara’s first foray into Europe and the launch of two Tivoli properties in the Middle East. The latter will be the first Tivoli hotels outside Portugal and Brazil.

Anantara will open its first European property in

Vilamoura, Portugal. Currently operating under sister brand Tivoli, it will become the Anantara Vilamoura Algarve Resort in April.

Ahead of the rebrand, the property will undergo a refurbishment. The main lobby and gym will be transformed, and children’s facilities will be added. A new luxury family suite category will be introduced, for up to four guests. The hotel’s rooftop will become the two-bedroom Anantara Suite, which will feature a private dining area, whirlpool bath and sun deck. Across its six brands, the group operates 155 hotels, but plans to increase that to between 200 and 230 within the next five years.

Michael Marshall, chief commercial officer,

said: “We are always looking at new locations and destinations. We already have 37 Anantara properties, but we want that to grow to 60 and 10 of those locations are already being plotted and planned.” He said there were also plans to expand the Avani

Hotels & Resorts brand. MINORHOTELS.COM

RAFFLES SINGAPORE HOTEL TO START TWO-YEAR REFIT

Raffles Hotels & Resorts is to refurbish its iconic Singapore hotel in a two-year ‘restoration project’. The work at Raffles Singapore Hotel will take place in three phases, starting in January, when the Raffles Hotel Arcade will be transformed. This part of the hotel houses the shops, the Ballroom, the Lawn and the Long Bar. The latter’s signature cocktail, the Singapore Sling, will continue to be served in the Bar & Billiard Room. The second phase of development will be undertaken in mid-2017, when the main hotel building, lobby and some of the suites will be overhauled.

The 103-suite hotel, which was declared a

national monument by the Singapore government in 1987, was last renovated between 1989 and 1991. Raffles will close for several months at the end

of 2017 for the final phase of the revamp. RAFFLES.COM
