SPA GODDESS

Infinity pool, Almyra Hotel

CHARLOTTE ELLIS, DESIGNER TRAVEL

BEFORE: I had been feeling really stressed and felt I deserved

a few days away from home. What with being

a homeworker (not many boundaries between work and leisure hours), having an extension put on our house and two young children, I’m running a constant to-do list in my head and never have any downtime. I knew I wanted to try out yoga and see some of Cyprus, both of which this trip would make possible. I’m also keen to lose a bit of weight – I eat quite healthily at home, but would like to cut out sugar as my cravings have got worse as I’ve got older and I think I have a slight problem with portion size!

DURING: I just loved the view of the infinity pool at the Columbia Beach Resort and would

definitely recommend that to clients who want a memorable and personalised holiday. There’s an excellent cycling centre there too. My lower back has been playing up lately, so I went for a lovely back massage while at the Almyra. And then I had the most amazing treatment: the Osea Malibu Seaweed Facial, which took an entire

hour and my skin has felt incredible afterward. The yoga class at Almyra inspired me to do two classes a week at home and the setting wasn’t bad either – sea views and sunshine!

AFTER: I have two young children and felt quite a lot of guilt about leaving them to come and indulge myself, but it’s done me the world of good. Having taken some ‘me time’ I’ve realised that the balance is off back home – I need to include more yoga or meditation, add some yin to my yang, if you like. Since I’ve returned, my mind definitely feels different; I’m less stressed and have a clearer idea of what’s important. Also, my back ache has gone, possibly thanks to the massages and yoga or maybe just because I took a break from working at a computer. I’ve committed to giving myself a four-day wellbeing escape break every year from now on.
