Advanced Biomedical


Scientist & Team Leader UK NEQAS [Edinburgh] (Peptide Hormones) Band 7 £31,696 - £41,787 pa


Applications are invited for the post of Advanced Biomedical Scientist & Team leader for the UK NEQAS for Peptide Hormones. The UK National External Quality Assessment Service (UK NEQAS) is a national organisation facilitating optimal patient care by providing a comprehensive assessment service for a wide range of disciplines throughout laboratory medicine. This is an excellent opportunity to join the UK NEQAS [Edinburgh] centre, based in the Department of Laboratory Medicine at the Royal Infi rmary of Edinburgh. The unit comprises the UK NEQAS for Peptide Hormones, UK NEQAS for Molecular Genetics and UK NEQAS for Molecular Pathology and is a well-established and accredited EQA provider within the fi eld of specialist immunoassays and molecular diagnostic testing.


We are seeking a self-motivated and enthusiastic individual to join the team in this internationally respected EQA centre. The post holder has responsibility for provision of specialist technical expertise, including preparation, analytical testing, validation of clinical samples (urine, plasma or blood) and participation in research and development as required by the Department. As Quality Co-ordinator for UK NEQAS [Edinburgh], you will be responsible for developing and maintaining documentation and quality data for the Quality Management System so as to meet the requirements of a national and international external quality assessment service.


Applicants should have an extensive background in providing a diagnostic clinical biochemistry service, with specialist knowledge and expertise in immunoassay and practical experience of different assay platforms. Applicants should be registered with the Health and Care Professions Council as a Biomedical Scientist specialising in Clinical Biochemistry. A unique opportunity is available for an experienced individual currently practising as a Band 6 Biomedical Scientist and looking for a new challenge or change of direction. The successful applicant will have a particular interest in


the administration and development of biomedical science education and training. They will


join the education


management team of the Institute of Biomedical Science, reporting to the Executive Head of Education, and work with university course providers, training officers, IBMS Council and its Education and Professional Standards Committee. We


are looking for someone who has a good


understanding and sound knowledge of biomedical/clinical scientist education,


training and development. This is a


highly interactive role requiring exemplary communication and diplomacy skills. This is a full-time, substantive post commensurate with Agenda for Change Band 6. You will be based in our London office and must be able


to work with a degree of flexibility, including occasional travel in the UK.
