OCEAN FISHING REPORT By Terrence Berg 976-TUNA.com

BLUEFIN TUNA ALREADY: The bluefin tuna are already showing for the 1.5-day boats heading offshore instead of down the coast. Top Gun 80 out of H&M Landing was out with 17 anglers who landed two-fish limits of bluefin in the 15- to 25-pound range; bigger fish in the 50- to 60- pound range were hooked but not landed. Josie Lynn out of Point Loma Sportfishing had five anglers on its weekend 1.5-day trip and landed six bluefin and three yellowtail.

MEXICAN YELLOWTAIL: Most of the 1.5-day fleet is heading down the coast into Mexican waters for yellowtail and rockfish around San Martin. Pacific Queen out of Fisherman’s Landing had 33 anglers on its 1.5-day trip and landed 158 yellowtail, 120 rockfish, 28 bonito and four ling- cod. Chief out of H&M Landing had 30 anglers on its 1.5-day trip and they landed 36 yellowtail, 261 rockfish, two bonito and one barracuda. Some 2.5- and three-day trips are also focusing on the near-shore waters and returned with good counts of both yellowtail and rockfish. Pacific Voyager out of Seaforth Sportfishing was on a three-day trip with 16 anglers over the weekend and landed 150 yellowtail and 160 rockfish,

while Eclipse, also out of Seaforth, was on a 2.5- day trip with 19 anglers and landed 128 yellow- tail, 30 rockfish and 10 red snapper.

LONG RANGE UPDATE: Royal Polaris wrapped up its current long range trip off the tip of Baja for giant yellowfin on March 29 and is headed back up the line. The final tally was 201 yellowfin tuna to 224 pounds, 105 wahoo, and five big grouper.
