Georgetown University, Point Loma HS win 2016 Rose Bowl Regatta
LONG BEACH — More than 29 college sailing teams and 60 high school teams competed in the annual Rose Bowl Regatta held in Long Beach, Jan. 2-3 off Belmont Memorial Pier. The 31st Rose Bowl Regatta, hosted
by US Sailing Center-Long Beach and the USC Varsity Sailing team, featured 92 teams and more than 400 sailors vying for a win in the popular regatta. The majority of high school teams
were from California, with the excep- tion of three teams from Washington State, while collegiate teams came from all over the United States. In the Collegiate Division,
Georgetown University took first with 69 points, College of Charleston fol- lowed in second with 80 points and Boston University took home third with 111 points. Point Loma High School pulled off a
first place win in the High School Division with a score of 82, and Santa Barbara High followed in second with 11 points; Francis Parker High rounded up the division with a third place win of 112 points. The Navy

sailing team pulled out a 10-place win after light winds delayed the star of racing during both days of the compe- tition. Eight races were held per divi- sion, according to news outlets. Sailors, coaches and parents

Rhonda Tolar, Bahia Corinthian Yacht Club member is notorious for winning races in her Farr 40 Wild Thing, but this year she has won a dif- ferent award. On a char- tered boat, Traveler, she has won the Newport Beach Boat Parade Sweepstakes Award for 2015 which is for the Best Decorated Boat Overall. Her theme was Peanuts complete with costumed characters on the boat, including Snoopy on his dog house.
