Tikka Chance on Curry On Cooking and The Spice Sisters The Spice Sisters are cooking up a storm with their Great British Curry On Cooking range of curry kits.
Meet Veena Josh (left) and Nilam Wright, born and bred Derbyshire lasses dubbed the Spice Sisters, who have created 6 lip-smacking currylicious spice kits.
Nilam left the UK in search of fame and fortune, and moved to Spain. Being a bit of a Bhaji Girl she missed the spices to make a pukka curry. She also met many British expats bemoaning the lack of a proper curry, it was a frustrating situation to be in!
“I was completely taken aback at how much expatriates really missed a proper ‘ruby murry’ and I was constantly being asked “where do you buy your Indian spices from?” I used to get my herbs and spices brought over by family and friends by the suitcase load! Whenever anybody came to visit from the UK I would dispatch a shopping list of ingredients I wanted.”
That’s when the sisters had a light bulb moment and Curry On Cooking was born! They began blending and selling curry kits to other expats living in southern Spain. Fast forward nearly 2 years on. Veena, one of those media lovely types, packed in her BBC job as a broadcast journalist. She now spends her waking hours devoted to spreading the word to Curryholics around the world.
In October 2015 Curry On Cooking was launched in the UK. The kits have gone down a storm with customers; stocked in high end delis, farm shops and butchers, the curry kits serve 4, come with a shopping list and recipe included. The kits are made from 100% herbs and spices, they are low in
fat. Curry On Cooking kits are free from sugar, gluten, diary, nuts, preservatives, additives and are suitable for a vegan diet.
Everything has been kept as simple as possible from the store cupboard ingredients to the recipes; for example, Nilam’s 10-year-old son was dispatched to cook the kits and as a result rewrote all the recipes, if a ten-year-old can cook them anybody can!
Curry On Curry kits are a happy medium between cooking from scratch without the bother of mixing all the spices needed, and using a jar which has the added nasties i.e. sugar, additives and preservatives.
Curry On Cooking’s The Great British Curry comes in a range of six meal kits; Mild - Korma and Tikka Masala. Medium - Balti, Bombay Potatoes. Hot - Jalfrezi. Very Hot - Madras.

The sisters are passionate about great tasting food and are on a mission to keep everything simple when it comes to cooking Indian food and to bust the myth about Indian cuisine, being unhealthy. So much so they have made a series of short videos. The links below are to two of them.

The Year Ahead – The 101 Campaign! The sisters have a busy year ahead of them with the launch of some new exciting products. They are also appealing for people to get involved in their campaign ‘More Than Just a Curry Kit - 101 Uses for Curry On Cooking Curry Kits’ to help to document 101 recipes using their kits. “We know some of our customers are faithful recipe followers while others go off piste and use the kits to add a bit of spice to rustle up alternative dishes” Veena said, “We want to hear what our customers do with their kits and leftovers”.
