The lymphatic system is an intricate network of nodes, vessels and valves that lie under the skin and transport a clear fluid containing white blood cells and a waste product called lymph throughout the body. This clear liquid is an important method of the body’s detox system. What is the lymphatic system? Think of it like a rubbish container that takes away the waste from your organs and the spaces between your cells, and passes into a draining system so that your cells are not overloaded by waste. I always encourage people to find ways to improve their lymphatic systems, because this system is not pumped by the heart or the digestive tract and because of this, your lymph can easily become sluggish and backed up. When this happens, the lymph cannot relieve the digestive system of its toxic load that can cause digestion to back up, especially as your body becomes less and less able to remove waste from your GI tract. Sluggish lymph also builds up fluid accumulation throughout your body, making you look puffy or chubby.

The reason why the lymph needs so much help is because it has to move upwards against gravity and it does this without any dedicated internal mechanism assisting it, therefore movement plays a fantastic role in improving this system, particularly as we get a little older. The lymph has to make it to the lymph nodes so that the toxins can be filtered by the immune cells and when this doesn’t take place, the lymph gets stuck and pools in the lower body. This is why some people have swollen feet and ankles, especially when they are sedentary.


Here are some tips to help stimulate your lymph and detox your body more efficiently. Lymphatic Massage. This approach has proven to be a very effective way in assisting the lymphatic system to rid the body of impurities. Lymphatic massage improves the circulation of the lymph and toxins allowing greater movement with the muscles and joints of the body - having this type of treatment on a regular basis will help greatly improve your sense of wellbeing and health. Get Moving.


One of the easiest ways to get your lymph moving is by exercising or moving around vigorously. The motion puts pressure on the lymphatic system and helps it flow. The best exercises to help get the lymph moving are skipping, jumping on a trampoline, a good walk, and swimming which can also have a great impact as it works all the muscles of the body and has very little impact on the joints. The lymphatic system needs your attention and help on a regular basis so that it can perform at its peak and help to restore you and keep your body’s vascular system in good condition. WATER also plays a vital role in eliminating toxins and assisting the lymphatic system, two litres per day is recommended to help your system improve and make a difference to YOU, so why wait!! Your body will thank you for it.
