CLUB F!T Challenge Gets Underway

The CLUB F!T Challenge is now underway, and this month we are going to feature two of the keen participants.

Liz Trafford has lived in Spain for 17 years, and many Jávea residents will immediately recognise her as the face of the busy Jávea Feral Cat Association. Always an active person throughout her life, and now having now reached the tender age of 70 years young, Liz knows she is extremely fortunate to be healthy and feeling perfectly fit at the moment.

However, having seen a lot of her friends of a similar age

as her, succumb to various ailments including asthma, diabetes, heart problems, and one particular friend has had a hip replaced, Liz is determined to make a move to stay healthy for as long as possible.

For this reason Liz has accepted The CLUB F!T Fitness Challenge. Although at the time of going to press Liz has only attended a handful of classes because the three month Challenge has only just begun, her comments are already very positive. “I am going to be taking 3 pilates classes a week, I have already taken a CORE STIX class which I really enjoyed, and I have been to a Nutritional talk which was extremely informative. I really am concerned about keeping my mobility

going, I used to do some exercise classes when I was younger, and getting back into doing some regular exercise has been great.” Liz continues “Right from the start, when I first enquired about the Challenge everyone at CLUB F!T has been extremely welcoming and helping me to focus on my particular personal goals. I don’t want to go mad or anything, I simply would like to lose a bit of weight, to ‘shape-up’ a little, and to feel a bit fitter and keep working on my mobility”.

Ian Bullough (pictured left in the photo below) on the other hand knows what it feels like to be severely ill, and has joined The CLUB F!T Fitness Challenge in order to continue his rehabilitation. Ian (68) has for many years been a very keen sailor, having skippered large yachts around many parts of the globe. But in April 2016 whilst skippering a yacht near Formentera, he was suddenly and severely taken ill with a broken esophagus, a very serious condition whereby the contents of his intestines and bowels were making their way into his lungs. After 2 emergency helicopter flights, Ian ended up in an induced coma at Palma University Hospital for 4 weeks, followed by 5 weeks in intensive care.

“The doctors told my wife that mainly because I was so fit generally I was able to survive the trauma.” says Ian. “It was a medical incident that could happen to anybody, but if I hadn’t have been so fit, they don’t think I would be here now.”

Ian continues “Having lost 3.5 stone, and with many of my muscles wasted away, my goal here at CLUB F!T is to put a little weight back on, regain some muscle power, and improve my overall strength and health. So far, and it is only the first week, I have done a pilates class and a little cardio work, and things are going really well”.

CLUB F!T is the perfect place for Liz and Ian to get back

and maintain their fitness and we are looking forward to seeing how they progress over the coming months. Every class is carefully designed for the individual, a trainer is always present, heart rate monitors are always worn with the information displayed on a TV screen so the class member can see how he or she is doing, and so that the instructor can see that everyone is always safe. In fact rehabilitation after an injury, or after recurrent injuries, or after an accident is one of CLUB F!T’s specialities; the trainers are specialists in bespoke personal training.
