Findings from the Maidstone Museum mummy scan

Maidstone Museum’s very own 2,700-year-old mummy – Ta-Kush – underwent a full CT scan at KIMS Hospital in September as part of the Ancient Civilisations Gallery redevelopment project.

During the scan, the team had the chance to analyse a number of additional objects from the ancient Egyptian collection.

Initial scans of Ta- Kush found that, while many believed her to have passed away during adolescence, she may in fact have been much older. Evidence was seen of well- worn teeth, loss of enamel, cavities, abscesses in the jaw, and fully erupted wisdom teeth, details which suggest a person who is at least mid-twenties,

possibly much older.
