WORKING IN PARTNERSHIP
The role of partnership working has taken a significant step forward in the past decade. Since 9/11, partnerships between law enforcement, the security services and business have grown in effectiveness and influence and now play a key role in defeating terrorism and other crime. Productive partnerships help build knowledge, resilience and capability.
Project Griffin is part of a range of partnership initiatives available to business and the community that are centred not only on preventing terrorism but on preventing crime in general. Project Griffin works alongside other initiatives such as the Cross- Sector Safety and Security Communications Partnership (CSSC), which was founded ahead of London 2012 to facilitate communications between the private and public sectors on issues surrounding security and business resilience.
CSSC brings together law enforcement agencies, government departments and nearly every sector that operates in the
11
capital and beyond, with a view to helping companies prepare for scenarios ranging from cybercrime and transportation issues to hostile reconnaissance and security alerts. CSSC builds on existing proven security networks such as Project Griffin to communicate with one voice on safety and security.
Also partnership-based is the Building Security Accreditation (BSA) scheme, whose function is to raise the standards of security within multi-occupied buildings. It provides a benchmark of the commitment of property owners to the protection of their premises, their personnel and the public at large. The City of London Crime Prevention Association (CoLCPA) developed BSA in conjunction with the City of London Police, the City of London Corporation and representatives of managing agents and the security industry.
There is a wide range of advice and information available from law enforcement and other agencies, as shown on our resources page. There is much that business can do to keep themselves and their staff safe, ranging from physical security measures
such as CCTV to developing policies and procedures that focus on recruitment, staff vetting and cyber security.
As an employer, it is vital to prioritise the safety and security of staff. Understanding the risks, regular liaison with police and reviewing your security are key.
A range of City of London Crime Prevention Association booklets is available with advice and guidance in these areas. See www.
