REFRESHER TRAINING

To ensure that Project Griffin participants remain fully briefed and effective, it is vital that they are kept up to date on key messages and procedures. After attending an Awareness Day, participants are eligible to update themselves by accessing an online

refresher training package. The online refresher programme is reviewed regularly and was updated in 2012 to include a firearms module and new material appropriate for Olympic Games events.

The refresher training takes about an hour and is informative, interactive and easy to follow. It comprises a number of modules and presents various scenarios from which the participant has to select the correct course of action. Successful completion ensures formal recognition for each participant.

The seven modules are:

• Chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear threats

• Crime scene management • Firearms and weapons • First on-site responder • Hostile reconnaissance • Suspect packages • Suspect vehicles.

The refresher training programme has been introduced to help learners who have attended the awareness day to revisit, refresh and keep themselves up to date with the latest key messages from the police. It involves a mix of interactive video clips and question and answer sections guiding learners as they work through each module. The learner is encouraged to refresh and revisit the module as many times as they wish to ensure that they are confident about the message being delivered.

By registering with Skills for Security, an organisation can become an accredited centre and deliver the package in the workplace. Additional follow-up awareness training has been developed in the form of an e-learning package.

Skills for Security will provide step-by-step instructions to the Centre once approved as well as creating a log-in and password for the administrator and this will be emailed through to the contact name provided on the application form.
