provides the trigger for the dramatic release of this tension, resulting in possible further national and global riots, civil unrest and opposition to oppression from the plutocracy of the ‘Establishment.’ These are echoes from the summer of 2011 when Uranus and Pluto briefly aligned but in 2012 they will be significantly more potent. There could also be a backlash from those who are feeling financially squeezed especially if bosses continue to award themselves huge bonuses. During all of this remember that times are indeed changing.


Neptune enters its own sign on 4th Feb until 2025. The last time it was in Pisces was from 1847 to 1862. Neptune gives the urge to transcend everyday reality and the theme in the Eighties was the rise of mediumship, spiritualism, the distribution of drugs and the Temperance movement. This year we could see a greater interest in spiritual growth and limitless forms of beauty (art, fashion, music) or the urge to escape through the glamour of films or the numbing effect of pills or substance abuse. The spotlight could also be on healthcare reform and mental health disorders. The highest expression of Neptune is greater compassion, empathy and oneness with the Divine. The lowest is escapism, illusion and deception. Desirable qualities for 2012 are discernment and responsibility. Neptune also rules the ocean and there could be more interest in clean-up campaigns.


A feature of 2012 is the number of retrograde planets, especially in the first half of the year. This puts the brakes on forward movement and can result in feelings of frustration -


Mercury retrograde (12 Mar to 4 Apr, 15 Jul to 8 Aug, and 6 to 26 Nov) - as forward movement is held back these times are best for revising or reviewing communications and contracts. If at all possible push them forward when these periods are finished. These dates are much more conducive to inner contemplation.


Venus retrograde (15 May to 27 Jun) - this is a good time for reuniting with friends or partners from the past. Wedding or social plans could experience delays.


Mars retrograde (24 Jan to 13 Apr) - is not an ideal time for taking direct action. It is more suited to revising long-terms plans and objectives. If you have a project that needs moving forward or something you want to achieve, ideally wait until after April. The path will be smoother and less frustrating. The good news is that there should be less budgetary cuts and redundancies after April when Mars turns direct.


With a number of planets and three eclipses in mutable signs it is also a year for being flexible, adaptable and willing to go with the flow, or rather roll with the punches.


Numerologically 2012 is a 5 year and the number 5 represents change. It is a fast number and gives the energy and drive to support any change. Time already feels fast but in 2012 it will feel like it is flying even more.


Jupiter enters Gemini on 12th June for a year long residence. This will bring a more positive time for the travel industry, communication networks and social networking.


Also on 5-6th June is a rare Venus transit in the air sign of Gemini. These are usually around a hundred years apart but there will be two within eight years (the last was in 2004). The Mayans were avid followers of the alignments of Venus and incorporated them into their Long Count Calendar. We are receiving a double dose of this beautiful feminine and loving energy. However, Venus transits are accompanied by a plasma tail which follows the Birkeland Currents, and have been associated with air-borne bacterial illnesses.


Saturn enters Scorpio on 6th Oct. Scorpio rules underground resources. A previous residence in this sign was in 1954 the year of the first atomic power station, the first operational subway line and the first nuclear-powered submarine. It also rules joint resources. There may be many households that are jointly feeling the pinch. Think carefully about the commitments you make and consider them from all angles. Don’t get tied into something financially or emotionally binding you might regret.


2012 will be the year when the New World will be illuminated. Shine your light into the darkness so that others can see the path.
