SHWA DAIBUTSU AT SEIRYU TEMPLE


Roughly 21.35 meters in height, the Shwa Daibutsu is the tallest seated bronze statue of Buddha in Japan. When you walk onto the temple grounds, your gaze will  rst be met with the Main Hall and a  ve-story pagoda representing the  ve elements in the Buddhist universe: earth, water,  re, wind, and sky. Take your shoes o to enter the Main Hall and exit through the left side to view the perfectly


manicured Zen rock garden and pagoda in its beautiful natural surroundings. Sit and calm your mind before you head up the tree lined pathway to take in the site of the Big Buddha. Venture inside the statue to experience Buddhist culture and absorb some Buddhist teachings. The temple is open year round and complimentary green tea is available in the courtyard of the small restaurant.

TOHOKU BLACK WATER


This small, quiet onsen is also a ryokan, or Japanese inn. The water is so dark it is said to be black and is believed to be bene cial for your skin. Private rooms are available for those who prefer to bathe alone or just with family members. Purchase your onsen ticket at the vending machine in the lobby and bring it to the front desk. It is highly recommended to make a reservation for the private rooms.



