on Kent roads THE NUMBER of injury collisions on Kent’s roads has shown a wor- rying increase this year, according to a police chief. But the overall increase is down
50% since the mid-1990s. Assistant Chief Constable Tony
Blaker said: “We think the number of killed and serious injury acci- dents will rise in 2016, andwe have a target to reduce them by 2020. “We’ve had a 50% reduction
since 1994. The long-term trend is good but the short-term trend shows a concerning increase in in- jury collisions.” Outlining the force’s strategy, he added: “The good news is, by 2015, the number of overall injury acci- dents in Kent reduced by 492, so the longer-term trend around colli- sions and injuries is downwards. But there have still been 55 people killed on the roads of Kent in 2015 and that’s 55 families who have suffered bereavement – and so far this year 36 people have been killed on Kent’s roads.” ACC Blaker was speaking at the quarterly Governance Board meet- ing held by Mathew Scott, the Kent Police and Crime Commissioner, who asked the force what work it is doing to tackle traffic offences. Mr Scott challenged the force on
two specific traffic issues – mobile phone use and speeding in rural areas.
