Merry, Merry and a Ho, Ho, Ho! (And, you all know which one you are.) It’s now time for the holi- days and what better place to spend it then Palm Springs, especially when Santa is the buff guy at the swimming pool enjoying a cocktail.


Along those lines, here are some great events for you to


experience while in the desert. Villagefest takes placeevery Thursday night in downtown Palm Springs from 6 to 10 p.m. Throughout the month of December, holiday lights dazzle the palm tree-lined, Palm Canyon Drive during the holiday shopping extravaganza. Set in the downtown and uptown design district, items range from fashion apparel to art galleries and home furnishings. For more information, go to villagefest.org. Weekends throughout December: EnjoyWildLights Holiday Festivalat The Living Desert Zoo and Gardens,with over one million twinkling lights illuminating the desert oasis. This year, WildLights features new light displays as well as return- ing favorites, camel and carousel rides, holiday entertain- ment, wildlife wonder shows and much more. Festivities take placeFriday and Saturday evenings through Saturday, December 24with special days added for Christmas. For more information, go to livingdesert.org/event/wildlights. CK Dance Company presents one of the most popular and beloved holiday ballets,The Nutcracker, onFriday and Saturday, December 2 and 3. This holiday classic has attracted more than 25,000 people, playing to sold-out crowds during its 19-year run in Palm Springs. This year, CK Dance presents their award-winning, “must see” ballet production, featuring Tchaikovsky’s beloved classical music, inside the beautiful Annenberg Theater at the Palm Springs Art Museum. For tickets and more information, go to psmuseum.org. Festival of Lights Parade is Downtown Palm Springs’ signature holiday tradition and takes place onSaturday, December 3. Featuring supermodel Beverly Johnson, as the


2016 Celebrity Grand Marshal, the Festival of Lights kick off at Ramon Road and Palm Canyon Drive and offers floats adorned in colorful holiday lights, marching bands, group performances and of course, Santa and Mrs. Claus. Community Grand Marshals include local celeb, Nelda Linsk, boxer Tim Bradley, Jr. and Palm Springs Police Chief Bryan Reyes. For more information, go to psfestivaloflights.com. Palm Springs Aerial Tramway Annual Tree Lighting on Sunday, December 4, brings actor and comedian, Ronnie Schell to the desert as the celebrity tree lighter. Offering over 6,000 LED lights, the tree lighting event traditionally opens the holiday season at the Tram. Festivities begin at the Mountain Station at 5:30 p.m., with the Palm Springs High School Choir singing a selection of holiday songs and the event is free with your tram admission price. The 21st Annual Walking Tour of the InnsonThursday, December 8, is the annual walking tour of Palm Springs’ unique collection of boutique hotels and historic inns. The free, self-guided event features some of the city’s historic and mid-century modern gems and is a holiday toy drive for Well In The Desert, the local poverty prevention/intervention/ advocacy organization. For tickets and more information, go to walkingtouroftheinns.com. The Santa Fly-In at Palm Springs Air Museum, takes place at 11 a.m. onSaturday and Sunday, December 10 and 11. Each day, Santa lands at the Air Museum under the wing of a vintage warbird, bringing bags filled with goodies for all children. Those under 12-years-old, are admitted free with a paying adult and pictures with Santa will be available. For more information, go to palmspringsairmuseum.org. The Palm Spring Gay Men’s Chorus presentsHollywood Holiday: Christmas at the Movies onSaturday and Sunday, December 17 and 18. Come and see the chorus as they take you for a journey through your favorite Christmas music featured in holiday movies. This unique holiday program will offer Hanukkah favorites and festive hits that include classics such as, “You’re a Mean One, Mr. Grinch” and “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas.” For tickets and more information, go to psgmc.com. and family are what the holidays are all about. 2016 has been a year filled with many trials and tribulations, with much sorrow and hate.
