Jensen's Nursery and Landscaping. Ltd. Garden like girls!
Elsie and Kurt Jensen.
Susan, Tammy and Kurt. K
urt Jensen immigrated to Canada from Denmark in 1957, where he met and married his wife, Elsie. The couple started a small lawn maintenance company out of their River Heights home in 1966, having no idea how it would grow into a prosperous family business that would be continued by his daughters today. Their home-based business grew rapidly,
blossoming into a residential and commercial landscaping company. Having outgrown their front driveway-based business, Kurt and Elsie purchased a one-acre-lot on McGillivray Blvd. in 1971. With the new found space, they were able to expand the business to in- clude a retail garden center and greenhouse. The young business began operations out of a shed on the property. This functioned as their sales office and they rented out the ex- isting farmhouse. However, their retail busi- ness grew so rapidly that by the late 1970s, the renters were gone and the farmhouse became the new sales office and showroom. Jensen’s continued to serve the south
end of the city over the next two decades. During this time the area experienced rapid expansion, both residentially and commer- cially. By the late 1990s the area had been developed so much, the family decided that a larger facility was required to better serve the community.

garden center and greenhouse was opened. By this time, Tammy and Susan, Kurt and Elsie’s daughters, were deeply involved with the business. With the new garden center open, Jensen's continued to grow and ex- pand. In the spring of 2005 a brand new, three-acre location was opened on the corner of McGillivray Blvd. and Brady Road. The new facility helped Jensen’s Garden Center become a major player in the garden center, greenhouse and landscaping business in the City of Winnipeg and surrounding areas. Jensen’s new location has a greater variety of shrubs, trees, perennials, annuals and triple
the space for giftware and gardening items. This family run business places emphasis on knowledgeable, friendly staff, great advice and personal service. In 2014, Jensen’s retired their commercial and residential landscaping service to focus on the expanding garden center. They are now able to offer tree and shrub planting, professional landscape design services as well as an affordable home consulting service. With both Tammy and Susan at the helm, new services such as seminars and workshops are now offered for gardeners of all ages and abilities. x
