The nearby café offers refreshments and snacks, and wash- room facilities are nearby. The Lyric Theatre, opened in 1999 was largely funded


by the Asper family and named for the movie house owned in Minnedosa by Israel Asper's father. Situated across the field from the duck pond, it is a hub of activity throughout the summer. The outdoor stage offers evening concerts, opera, movies, ballets, educational programs and is the centre of almost all of the park’s festivals. More gardens


The formal garden was part of the park’s original plans. The conservatory gardens are constantly changing.


The butterfly garden is located in the Assiniboine Park Zoo and is filled with butterfly friendly flow- ers and exotic butterflies.


When Frederick Todd designed the gardens in 1907, he created geometrical and precisely defined flower beds. The garden, located in the southeast corner of the park, offers a beautiful contrast to the informal design of the English garden with its symmetrical arrangements of beds and flowers. Children adore the Nature Playground, inspired by the


classic childhood board game of Snakes and Ladders. It is home to the Streuber Family Children’s garden. It is a fun and whimsical place where one will encounter a friendly snake made of woven branches, a merry band of musi-
