CHP

The Novotel Canary Wharf will have its own CHP

The UK’s tallest hotel tower is to include a combined heat and power system from Veolia. When completed this Autumn 2016, the 39storey Novotel Hotel Canary Wharf in London will get its electricity, heat and hot water from a 135 kWe CHP unit. Cogenco, Veolia's specialist packaged CHP team, will supply the stateoftheart technology, reports UKPN.

Public and Commercial spokesman, com- ments: "This latest application of decentral- ized power demonstrates how Veolia can help the hotel industry maintain energy security and lower demand on the grid." The Novotel’s owner, Accor Hotels, added:

"Sustainability has always been an important part of our business and we are working hard to bring in greener and cleaner practices to reduce the carbon footprint of our estate. This Veolia CHP unit adds to the ones that already serve some of our new hotels, and will help us to make significant carbon savings which sup- port environmental objectives."

Over 600 sites currently benefit from

Veolia’s CHP solutions. One recent client is Sibelco, which operates sites throughout the UK

Sibelco required stable low carbon supplies

of electricity and heat and turned to Veolia (Cogenco) Heat and Power to design and install a 1.4MWe CHP system to provide electricity and hot air to the processing systems at the company’s Ivybridge site. To effectively use the heat from the CHP, and transfer this to the drying process Veolia's specialist CHP team delivered innovation by installing specially designed heat exchangers in the make-up air to the process dryer. This system increases the temperature of the input air and displaces gas burners that were previously used. Veolia's specialist designers, installers and operators were able to provide Sibelco with an innovative solution for its onsite generation needs.

The company worked closely with Sibelco to ensure that they could help lower emissions and successfully work towards the CO2 target.

The CHP runs 24-hours-a-day and is

operated and maintained using Veolia's Integrated Management System which provides remote monitoring and control on a 365 days a year basis. The Veolia team were closely involved with

suppliers & the Electricity Board to ensure all the electrical connection of the CHP systems went smoothly. www.veolia.co.uk
