V60 is a smart and stylish saver
REVIEW: Volvo V60 Cross Country estate BY SUE COOKE
Brexit with diesel up by 50%. And since the EU Referendum the organisation estimates that over £400m has been held back by unprincipled fuel suppliers. Some retailers say they are being overcharged by as much as six pence per litre so who is fleecing UK motorists, hauliers and small businesses? FairFuel UK says the whole fuel supply chain cartel seems to be colluding behind a smokescreen of post-Brexit uncertainty. Saving fuel is paramount for business fleets

and it is a very good reason for buying the Volvo Cross Country, which achieves combined fuel consumption of 78.5mpg. CO2 emissions are also low at 111g/km so road tax will only cost £30 a year. The V60 Cross Country five door coupe-style
estate reflects Volvo’s Scandinavian heritage and unique sense of adventure with rugged styling, exceptional interior comfort and a dynamic driving experience. The D4 engine, which I tested, has an
enhanced sporty drive with instant acceleration, responsive agile behaviour and corner traction control. Long motorway journeys are enjoyable as, with lots of torque, I found I didn’t have to keep changing down the rather notchy six-speed gearbox. The premium car denotes its Cross Country
standing with the addition of a black honeycomb front grille, gloss black trim around the windows, silver exterior scuff plates, roof rails, integrated
airfuel UK is urging the Government to act on fuel prices. Petrpm margins at the pumps have nearly doubled since
twin exhaust pipes and the Cross Country branding across the rear scuff plate. Volvo Cars was the first premium brand to
offer increased all-road capability and styling on its estates as far back as 1997. And for real adventurers there is the choice of all wheel drive (AWD) but this will cost you around £3,000 extra. Whether you want surety and safety on the
road in bad weather or good traction when driving up a muddy track the Cross Country model has 201mm increased ground clearance over the 65mm in the basic V60 This estate is also favoured by the adventurers who need increased boot capacity. Volvo expects that only 6% will purchase the saloon version, S60. The quality interior has leather seats with
contrast stitching as an optional extra and there is a choice of two trims, the SE or De Luxe. Specification wise rear park assist is standard.
Drivers can buy a Winter Pack which includes heated front seats, heated front windscreen, headlight cleaning system and heated washer nozzles, or the Driver Support Pack which includes a host of safety systems such as pedestrian and cyclist detection, driver alert control with active high beam, blind spot information system with cross traffic alert and collision warning with full auto brake. However, I found it irritating that when I drove down a local road with cars parked on either side, the system insisted on warning me by flashing a red light. Volvo buyers will pay a premium price for
their Cross Country model but there are savings to be made on road tax and, for those totting up high mileage figures, on fuel consumption too.
