news New community for fast-growth businesses

Business United (Biz Utd), the forum connecting fast-growth business leaders in medium-sized businesses (MSBs), is launching its flagship event, the Brittelstand Symposium, for those unsung champions of the UK economy. The CBI’s recent Lifting the Trophy report showed that fast-growth MSBs generated an additional £59 billion in national GDP – the difference between recovery and recession

A community for scale-up leaders

Leaders within this group of businesses are often isolated and reluctant to attend networking events for fear of being “sold to”. At the same time, a life-long commitment to learning and talent for relationships is often what has got them to where they are today. The Brittelstand Symposium aims to bring together these business owners and directors to share experiences and solutions with peers, in a supportive environment.

Navigating Brexit with best-in- class leaders

With Brexit identified as the key cause of uncertainty for many attendees, the Brittlelstand Symposium will explore how directors and owners can overcome the new set of challenges it brings, in terms of talent, data and funding growth.

Experts from the scale-up world including GCS, Henley Business School, UKTI and the Scale Up Institute will be leading hands-on break-out sessions. Regional scale-up leaders Adam Hale, CEO, Fairsail, Barry Lewis, CRO at Cadline and Sean Taylor, MD at Redwood Technologies will share their own war stories.

About the day

As well as benefiting from interactive break-out sessions, Brittelstand attendees will get to hear from leaders shaping the business agenda today:

• An opening address and Q&A from Lord Mark Price CVO, minister of state for trade and investment

• Professor Graeme Leach, columnist for City AM and The Daily Telegraph, exploring the global significance of Brexit

• The Redwood Lecture delivered by Matthew Syed, award-winning journalist and author. Syed will share ‘Black Box Thinking’, his approach to high performance – in business and life.

Are you a fast-growth business leader?

We’re thrilled to be hosting the first Brittelstand Symposium. Already we have some of the region’s most exciting fast-growth business leaders signed up – those at the helm of scale-ups as well as entrepreneurs at the beginning of their journey. The one-day, not- for-profit conference takes place at Wokefield Park, Berkshire, on September 22. The Brittelstand Symposium is sponsored by PwC and supported by the CBI, IoD, Redwood Technologies, Thames Valley Berkshire LEP, and the Torftech Group.

Chris Maw, office senior partner at PwC, commented: “I am delighted that PwC will be sponsoring the first Brittlestand Symposium. We see this as a great opportunity for fast-growth businesses to build a network and gain valuable insights from other business owners and directors.”

Business United founder Chris Dodson explained: “While there’s no doubt fast- growth SMEs are the backbone of our economy, this group is often overlooked from a business support perspective. As a result, I’ve found my peers have become isolated and confused about where to go for worthwhile, experience- based advice. The effects of Brexit will only magnify this situation as our business leaders are navigating new uncharted waters. The Brittelstand Symposium exists to help close this gap.”

The event is invitation only. If you would like to request registration, visit the website.
