MEAC kicks off 2016 football season in downtown Norfolk
Courtesy of Randy Singleton The MEAC officially kicked off its 2016 football season with a press luncheon at the Waterside Marriott Hotel in downtown Norfolk on Friday (July 29).
Coaches and top conference student-athletes discussed the upcoming season with the press, and mingled with fans and alumni. A&T was predicted to repeat as MEAC champion, while local teams, Hampton and Norfolk State, were predicted to finish fifth and sixth, respectively. A&T senior RB Tarik Cohen was named Preseason Offensive Player of the Year. SCSU senior LB Darius Leonard was named Preseason Defensive Player of the Year. The predicted order of finish for the 2016 season as selected by the MEAC’s head football coaches and sports information directors:
1) North Carolina A&T; 2) Bethune Cookman; 3) North Carolina Central; 4) South Carolina State; 5) Hampton; 6) Norfolk State; 7) Morgan State; 8) Florida A&M; 9) Delaware State; 10) Howard; 11) Savannah State
