News Park Wood on

‘best’ shortlist AMAIDSTONE regeneration proj- ect has been shortlisted among the best in Britain. The scheme at Park Wood has

been shortlisted for “Regeneration Scheme of the Year” in the Top 60 DevelopmentAwards, assigned by the trade title “Inside Housing”. The awards celebrate the supply

of affordable homes and showcase the best new-builds. Phases one and two of the £50m project to transform the heart of Park Wood were completed at the end of 2015, and have provided more than 150 affordable homes, and a retail and community centre. Improvements have also been

made to Parkwood Park, including the creation of a parkwalkway, ad- ditional planting and a £30,000 con- tribution towards the development of a skate park and outside gym. The final phase of the develop-

ment is due to start in September with the demolition of the old shopping parade and flats to make way for 56 new homes, which in- clude 18 family houses and 38 flats for affordable rent, market rent and shared ownership. This scheme has been led by a Maidstone-based housing associa- tion, a law firm and architects with funding from the Homes and Com- munities Agency.
