News Abuser jailed
A STAPLEHURST man who downloaded indecent images of children and sexually assaulted a young boy has been sentenced to four years in prison. TimothyWithey’s home in Mar-
ket Street, Staplehurst, was searched by police in August last year where indecent images were found on his computer. In the course of inquries by de-
tectives from a specialist squad, a boy came forward to claim he had been sexually assaulted twice by the 47-year-old, when hewas eight and 12 years old. Withey was jailed after pleading
guilty to making indecent images and two counts of sexual assault on a child at Maidstone Crown Court in December 2015.

Fraud pair facing jail for mis-selling unfit horses
A HORSE dealer from Sandling has been found guilty of a huge fraud that involved selling ill or dangerous horses to innocent buy- ers.
Charlotte Johnson (28), of Tollgate
Way,was found guilty of conspiracy to commit fraud by false representa- tion.
The animalswere sold from farms
in Marden and Staplehurst. Johnson appeared at Maidstone Crown Court with Aniela Jurecka (28), of ProspectPlace, Collier Street, Tonbridge, and 66-year-old David Smith, of The Street, Finglesham, Deal, whowere also found guilty of conspiracy to commit fraud after a three-month trial. The triowere arrested following a large-scale operation involving offi- cers from Kent Police, Trading Stan- dards and The Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons. The court heard how Johnson and Jurecka advertised horses for sale in equestrian publications. their recommended veterinarian, Smith, to save money. Smith would then give the horses
a clean bill of health and the victim would purchase a sub-standard horse. Prices ranged from £1,950 to £5,700. The animalswere sold from Duck-
hurst Farm, Staplehurst, and Great Thorn Farm, Marden, and the cer-
tificate of the animal’s good health and suitability for purposewere pro- vided by David Smith of the Lake- view Veterinary Centre, Folkestone. Jurecka and Johnson advertised
the horses under the business names of SE Horses and Mid Kent Horses. There were 17 identified victims,
some of whomwere looking for an- imals suitable for children. They are to be sentenced this month.
