SONOMA COUNTY, CA. ~ “Do you really know what all those knobs do?” Randy Tea- ford says with a laugh that is the number one question he hears from people when he is work- ing a show as a Sound Engineer. Randy Teaford
has been a So- noma County resident since 1973. He got his start in the music biz working for the brothers who started EMG pick-ups for electric guitars when the com- pany was still a small business and before it be- came an internationally known major corporation. His inter- est in music developed when

he was growing up in southern California and he became a bass player. Teaford (a.k.a. Te Professor)

Multi-track recording, comput- er sequencing, film and video became Teaford’s specialties. “I’ve always been the guy trying to stay ahead of the technical curve.” Troughout his career, he has been able to help people further their own music proj- ects with his skill set. Teaford worked at and man-
aged several nightclubs in So- noma County, including, Mag- nolias, Studio KAFE, and the Inn of the Beginning. He spent 15 years working at the Mystic Teatre as the Chief Sound En- gineer and Production Manag- er. Additionally, he toured with bands, including the Cardiff Reefers (rock reggae), Te Mer- men (psychedelic, surf-rock) and he even toured in Europe with Blues harmonic player, Charlie Musselwhite. Teaford says he “kept about

His intention is to cre- ate “an in depth history of So- noma County music.” Teaford recommends that
people interested in a career as a Sound Engineer have a basic musical background in order to be able to handle multiple chan- nels of inputs to come up with a good mix for sound checks and ultimately for the shows. Visit
