Once upon a time, the shop was called Potty People, with a tag line of ‘Maidstone’s best kept secret’.
But in the 10 years since the present owners have been in control, the secret is out and Woodstock in Hermitage Lane, Maidstone has evolved considerably. Claire and Richard Warner now have an enterprise offering garden and conservatory furniture, fires and stoves, high- class cattery and small pet boarding. A firm favourite for the garden in recent years has been the introduction of Woodstock’s all weather Rattan range. The zero maintenance furniture can be left out all year round. With a five-year guarantee, recent trends have seen customers adding to their furniture collection rather than replacing tired furniture. Come and see for yourself – some of these sets have been out for up to eight years. You will be intrigued to see the conservatory furniture range, traditionally made from cane, with several sets actually made from banana leaves. Now it has just launched an intimate and well- appointed cafe in conjunction with partner Paul Robson. Paul’s mother Helen will run the cafe.

The plan for the new cafe is to open early mornings serving breakfasts, light meals at lunchtime and teas, coffees and cakes throughout the day; it is an oasis of calm away from the hustle and bustle of life beyond. It is anticipated that, apart from Woodstock customers popping in for a relaxing break, workers from the neighbouring Hermitage Court Business Park will use the facility, as well as visitors to Maidstone Hospital dropping off friends/family for appointments and coming in for a break.
The cattery, finished to a high quality specification, has had to be extended several times due to demand. It now has an additional ‘small
pet boarding’ section. Even still, there are waiting lists for peak holiday periods. All in all, Woodstock is a great little family business to visit. Check it out on Hermitage Lane, just below Maidstone Hospital.
