get cash boost ALMOSThalf a million pounds has been awarded to 13 organisations which provide specialist support to victims of crime by Police and Crime Commissioner Matthew Scott.


Grants worth a total of £450,671


were signed off by Mr Scott, in- cluding a cheque for £41,400 to the Maidstone-based children’s charity Dandelion Time. Dandelion Time, based at Elm-


scroft inWest Farleigh, is a charity for children and families struggling with trauma often arising from physical or emotional abuse, neg- lect and domestic violence. All the grants awarded this time are going to groups specifically offering sup- port to children and young people, victims of hate crime and male vic- tims of crime, aswell as therapeutic services and trauma counselling. Mr Scott said: “Putting victims at


the heart of the justice system is one of my priorities. I’m pleased to in- vest this money in these organisa- tions.“


Recipients included charities Family Matters (£41,000), Juvenile Justice International (£39,900), MCCH (£48,170) Rubicon Cares (£50,000) and Sign Health/Deaf- Hope (£40,588).

From Dubai’s dust and heat to Kent’s clean air


DINERS can enjoy a feast of flavours from around the globe at the Tudor Park, following the ap- pointment of Alfonso Salvaggio. The new executive head chef (41),


who was born in Belgium and heads up the hotel’s catering divi- sion with its 13 chefs, has been working in Dubai. He said: “It is so fantastic to be


able to walk outside and enjoy this beautiful countryside and fresh air.” He is also revelling in the fact


that, unlike in Dubai, ingredients here are fresh and seasonal and do not have to be flown in. “I have heard so much about


Kent and the produce grown here, so I amlooking forward to making the most of that in our seasonal menus.” He is also enjoying spending time outside with his daughters Giulia (five) and Fiona (three). He added: “I bought my daugh-


ters umbrellas for the first time in their lives and they are even loving it when it rains, as they have never


experienced it before.” His arrival coincides with the launch of a new a la carte menu for the Marriott’s Conical Grill; he will also be overseeing new menus for the summer in the Mezz bar and Zest dining area. Alfonso’s parents owned an Ital-


ian restaurant in Belgium and itwas there, as a teenager, helping to serve meals and cooking alongside his Italian father, that he learned his love of good food. After catering college, he worked


in various fine dining restaurants in Belgium before returning to his par- ents’ restaurant for five years. Hethen caught the travel bug and worked in four- and five-star hotels in Brussels, China and Romania. At this point on his globe-trotting


adventure he enjoyed an 18-month stint in the Crowne Plaza Dubai Deira Hotel, where he held the po- sition of executive head chef, over- seeing seven outlets. His travels, combined with his


Italian connections, have strong in- fluences on Alfonso’s cooking,

which he hopes to bring to his new role. He added: “I think guests at Tudor Park will see Asian, Balkan and Italian flavours coming through some of my dishes.”

• To staff the hospital shop which is stocked with a wide variety of sandwiches, crisps, drinks, toiletries, greetings cards, sweets, chocolate, etc.


• To take trolleys (containing sweets, drinks, toiletries, etc.) round the wards. • Staff our busy tea bar • Sell books in the book room


The League of Friends is a registered charity and all monies raised ensures that it can respond to requests for equipment and improvements in the hospital.
