“We have shown a marked improvement in vacancy rate for shops and units in the town centre. During the period from January to April seventeen units fell empty but this was offset by 23 new businesses opening.
“Other research on the composition of the town centre, focused on its evening to night economies, shows a trend for an increase in night economy venues, with a net increase of 18 new establishments between 2013 and 2015.
“This increase is also reflective of a change in demand for the type of facility that customers coming to Maidstone are looking for as 11 of those businesses that opened were restaurants and three were late opening community
facilities including the introduction of the Maidstone Museum Lates, further cementing Maidstone’s reputation as a place to visit, shop, eat and socialise.”
Kent Invicta Chamber of Commerce spokesman Roger Keech said that Maidstone was becoming more and more attractive to businesses and entrepreneurs.
He added: “Business seems to be doing really well in Maidstone with lots starting up right across the area. It has much to offer entrepreneurial types.”
