Scouting plea MORE adult helpers are needed to
keep the Suttons Scout Group going.
Due to growing numbers in the
Beavers, Cubs and Scouts, leaders are needed to help supervise and run the evening activities. The Beaver Colony (ages 6-8) is particularly in need of assistance. No Scouting experience is neces- sary and volunteers are required to fill out an application form and pass an enhanced DBS (formerly CRB) check. For details email sut-
tonscouts@yahoo.co.uk or call Clare Hampson for Beavers (01622 862894), Linda Waring for Cubs (ages 8-10) on 01622 843112 or Tim Waring for Scouts (ages 10-14) on 01622 670987.
Shop re-opens THE new Chart Sutton Community
Shop has had its grand re-opening. There was music, merriment, re- freshments and hot dogs for cus- tomers at the long-awaited replacement cabin on the Green. In the week leading up to the re- launch, there were two cabins on the Green – the old one still run- ning as usual and the new one being fitted out. The shop was closed over the
weekend of April 30 and May 1, so that stock could be moved over and the finishing touches added.

Vicar Fiona gets into shape to raise £1,000
HEADCORN vicar Fiona Haskett has lost a lot of surplus in her sur- plice, having denounced treats and wine for months. Rev Haskett was alarmed by her bulging waistline after over- indulging during the festive pe- riod. So she cut out alcohol, choco- late, biscuits, cakes and crisps and resolved to eat sensibly until she had lost 20lbs. It seems to have worked, as the slimline priest has beaten her own target by 1.5lbs. Better still, she has also raised £1,000, which will be split between St Peter and St Paul’s Church organ fund in Heacdorn and Sutton Va- lence Youth Centre. The mother of four said: “I had
the incentive I needed to stick to my regime because of the many people generously sponsoring me. Although my aim is to continue with my diet, I’m not sure whether I will manage it once these incen- tives are no longer there!”
Rev Fiona Haskett and Hector Husband Graham also decided
to join her regime and has lost a stone and a half in the same period. The vicar said: “It has made all
the difference as together we have helped each other to resist the temptations of a crafty bar of chocolate or bottle of beer during the week. As the evenings become lighter, we will be able to enjoy more eveningwalks together too.” As well as eating smaller por-
tions and not snacking between meals, the vicar has started taking more exercise and walks to church instead of driving in the car. Feel- ing much better for losing the weight, the pair now hope to carry on with their mission well into the summer. One member of the household is
less impressed with the new regime, however. The vicar’s dog Hector – a not-so- miniature Schnauzer – has now be- come a calorie-controlled canine! She said: “He has never been
very miniature, so we have cut out his treats and put him on diet food and he’s looking much trimmer for it!”
