Forty years ago, four caving buddies came together with a single wish: to build the perfect, high durability, high performance rope for caving. Together, they engineered PMI®
Pit Rope (page 9) –
still the rope of choice among recreational and expedition cavers in the harshest environments around the globe today.
With that single rope, Pigeon Mountain Industries (PMI) was born!
Steve Hudson, himself an avid caver, then began adapting his innovation to create additional ropes and products to meet the needs of his other passion: technical rope rescue. Guided by the principles of quality and integrity, he spent the next several decades making PMI rope right here in the USA.
PMI rope is still made in the heart of caving country, just on the edge of Pigeon Mountain, Georgia, with our Denver, Colorado office being home to PMI’s training center, sales, and marketing. We are also proud to bring you some of the finest equipment on earth from folks like SMC, Cascade, SKEDCO, Harken, ClimbTech, and others.
PMI takes pride in the fact that our employees are rescuers, rope access technicians, cavers, and climbers themselves. We believe that the fact that PMI gear is created “by vertical professionals, for vertical professionals” is part of the reason that ours is the rope of choice not only for cavers but also for firefighters, rescuers, mountaineers, and rope technicians throughout the world. In fact, it is not uncommon for the term “rope” to be replaced by “PMI”, as in “…rig up this PMI off that anchor!”
In 2013 the vertical world lost a true pioneer and innovator when Steve Hudson passed away. Today, PMI employees proudly carry on the tradition of quality and integrity that he initiated.
