Percy George Illsley was born in Spalding, near Lincoln. A Labourer by occupation, he attested for the Hussars of the Line at Barnsley on 4 January 1899. With the 13th Hussars he served in India. Promoted to Serjeant in June 1904. Transferred to the 11th Hussars in February 1912. Attained the rank of Squadron Quartermaster Serjeant in November 1912. As such he entered the France/Flanders theatre of war with ‘B’ Squadron on 15 August 1914. Awarded the L.S. & G.C. Medal with gratuity in October 1918.

Serjeant Edward Walter Yorke, 1st Battalion Royal Warwickshire Regiment entered the France/Flanders theatre of war on 4 October 1914. As a Company Serjeant-Major in the 2nd Battalion, he died of wounds on 30 August 1915, aged 32 years. He was buried in the Sailly-Labourse Communal Cemetery. He was the husband of Mrs E. Yorke, of 9 Leopold Street, Birmingham.


With two Royal Warwickshire Regiment Prize Medals for Boxing, both in silver and gold, one inscribed, ‘Corpl. E. Yorke, 1st Middle Weight Royal Warwickshire Regiment Oct. 1905; the other, ‘2nd Bn. Royal Warwickshire Regt. 1914’ ‘ Sgt. Yorke 1st Middle Weight’; with photographs (7) of his headstone and the cemetery; with a leather folder and leather purse. Also with copied m.i.c.

Arthur Walter Everitt was born in Barking Town, Essex. An Office Boy by occupation, he attested for the Leinster Regiment at Stratford on 15 June 1908, aged 16 years, 2 months. With the regiment he served in India, December 1908-November 1911. During the Great War he served in France, September 1914-January 1915 and December 1915-May 1917, being transferred to the Royal Irish Regiment in August 1916. Transferred to the R.F.C./R.A.F. in March 1918. As an Aircraftsman 1st Class he took his discharge from the R.A.F. in June 1932.

George Edmonds, a Musician aged 15 years, 2 months, enlisted into the 11th Hussars at London on 18 March 1895. Initially ranked as a Boy, he was appointed Bandsman in July 1897 and Trumpeter in January 1899. He was promoted to Lance-Corporal in September 1906 and Corporal in October 1912. Served overseas in India, September 1895-October 1899 and Egypt, October 1899-April 1900.


During the Great War he served in France, 15 August-9 September 1914 and again, December 1916-October 1917. Edmonds briefly served with the Royal Irish Fusiliers, December 1916-April 1917, before returning to the 11th Hussars. He was transferred to the 16th Battalion Royal Warwickshire Regiment in September 1917, however, his second period in France was curtailed through gunshot wounds to the face and shoulder, suffered on 9 October 1917. He was discharged in May 1919.


With a quantity of copied service papers; with other research including a photocopied photograph of the band of the 11th Hussars which includes Edmonds.
