Dear Readers,

Recently we needed something from our lo and, as I crawled to the end, my heart fell as I saw that a bag had been chewed by what I could only presume were mice.

Picking up what I needed and sculing down from the hatch at double speed, I immediately called Andy Elford at EES Ltd.

However, aer a thorough inspecon, Andy assured us that in fact we didn’t have mice at all. The culprit? We had stored something in a black bin bag and these bags are designed to biodegrade, which is exactly what ours had started to do.

It was the spur we needed though to bring everything down from the lo, repack it in sensible boxes and label everything. What I didn’t realise was how much I would enjoy doing it.

When my mum died, a few years ago, I couldn’t face looking through all her photos and treasures but now it seemed much easier. Realising that although I recognised a lot of people in the photographs, my children would not, I set about labelling each one. It was interesng to see how family likenesses move down the generaons and indeed interests and career choices.

One photo showed my father in front of his home as a five year old. It only gave a number and street name on the back. Making a guess as to the locaon and using Google Earth I eventually managed to locate the house and view it as it is now. Very different but fascinang to see.

So if you’ve been pung off labelling those old photos, take heart, you might just find that you become totally engrossed and rather than it being a chore it becomes the most wonderful trip down Memory Lane!

If I could just inspire my husband to do the same for the photos relang to his side of the family then we’d be really organised!

Enjoy your Village Voice. Best wishes
