Eastman House Celebrates its 150th Anniversary at the High Point Market By Gretchen Kast

Eastman House is celebrating its 150th An- niversary this year with the launch of an excit- ing new mattress collection at the spring High Point Market. Celebrating 150 years is a pretty significant event in itself, but it is truly an amaz- ing feat to further acknowledge that Eastman House holds the distinctive title of being the oldest continuously operating mattress man- ufacturing company in the United States. To- day, Eastman House is a cornerstone brand of North Brunswick, New Jersey-based Bedding Industries of America (BIA). Steeped in a 150-year tradition of manufac- turing the finest handcrafted mattresses, East- man House mattress collections include the Eastman House Latex collection and specialty foam collections, which feature memory foam and gel. The brand also offers The Heritage Collection with coil-on-coil sleep technology, and the two-sided Traditions line-up. Fulfilling many decades in pursuit of excellence, East- man House mattresses are constructed with the finest materials including natural latex, CertiPUR-US foams, Joma Wool, Pima Cotton and luxurious imported fabrics. Recently intro- duced at the fall High Point Market, the com- pany’s English Hand-Tufted Collection fuses traditional hand-craftsmanship with high-end materials and advanced patented technologies to offer unsurpassed sleep comfort. In addition to high quality wool and silk components, this luxury line-up is made with hand crafted lace tack tufting. This traditional process not only lends the collection an opulent look, it also enhances the longevity of the mattress by se- curing the mattresses’ many layers in place. “In terms of workmanship, quality and mate- rials,” explained Eastman House President Matt Connolly, “this collection is unparalleled in today’s marketplace.” This unique line-up has been extremely well received among East- man House’s partners—with all of its domestic licensees signing on to manufacture the prod-

uct. Supported by cohesive POP materials that highlight the benefits of hand tufting, the collection’s nation-wide availability reinforc- es the branding and enhances the consumer awareness. With licensee and sub-licensee factories throughout the United States, Con- nolly is proud to report that all Eastman House products are “Made in America. ” The latest addition to the Eastman House portfolio is the special 150th Anniversary col- lection, which Bedding Industries of America CEO Stuart Carlitz is very upbeat about unveil- ing. This unique collection was specifically de- signed to allow home furnishings and mattress retailers to offer their customers an ultra pre- mium product at a broad price range. Selling at retail for $999 and up, the anniversary col- lection provides an approachable price point without sacrificing the exceptional patented features offered only by BIA brands. This line concentrates on hybrid beds made of specialty foams and high coil count innersprings, with some models featuring encased coils and ex- tra premium imported fabric. Set for a spring High Point Market introduction, the 150th An- niversary Collection will launch with a full pro- gram that offers various comfort levels. The High Point market remains an import- ant marketing venue for BIA and its flagship Eastman House and Eclipse brands. Both brands still aim to create high-value products, powerful sales features and high margins for furniture, home furnishings and mattress re- tailers. BIA thinks like its retailer customers think; the company designs, produces and markets mattress and bedding lines that help furniture companies meet the needs of their customers while building an ongoing story of quality and value. In addition to the 150th An- niversary Collection, BIA will also showcase the full lines of existing Eastman House and Eclipse mattresses in High Point. Carlitz says that in order to best serve the full scope of retailers, you must have a full

complement of strong factories across the country and around the globe. Over the past few years, BIA has built an extensive licensee and sub-licensee network to reach a wide va- riety of furniture stores, mattress stores, big box stores, e-retailers, hospitality, institutional and private label customers. “We have strong factories,” Carlitz explained.

“We seek out successful, financially sound and experienced factories to support our Eclipse and Eastman House brands and to produce the highly successful online Saatva program.” There are many key factors driving the suc- cess of these brands, including experience, quality, value and, above all, unique patents. If there is one common thread that binds all the Eclipse and Eastman House licensees together, it is the demonstrable benefits of- fered by BIA’s innovative patents and con- struction features. These include the SPINAL ZONE Patented Sleep Technology, patent- ed LIFEEDGE Perimeter Support, Zoned Quilt Patented Sleep Technology, Patented Allergy-Free Design, and COILONCOIL Ad- vanced Sleep System Technology. At a recent industry expo, a number of mat- tress factory executives cited these patented benefits as great additions to their product lines—and a means to bring real value, perfor- mance and business opportunities to mattress and bedding retailers throughout the world.
