get prepared BOOKINGS are now being taken for the 49th World Custard Pie Championships, being held in Cox- heath this summer. Attracting worldwide interest, this pie-pitching event is not for the faint- hearted – or those who don’t fancy getting their hands dirty. This year’s custard challenge takes

place on Saturday, June 4 and teams of four are asked to come ready to do battle in Victorian costume or some other novelty dress. The World Custard Pie Champi- onship was dreamed up by former councillor Mike FitzGerald and cur- rent ward member Brian Mortimer to raise funds for the village hall. The rules are simple. The teams of

four are drawn against each other and score points depending on where their pie hits a opponent. The challenge has been featured in

the press and onTVacross the globe, drawing a Japanese contingent to the area in 2015. The international team spent a whole day in training and were rewarded with first place for their panache. They have pledged to return to defend the title. With a limit of 22 teams and en-

tries flooding in, teams are urged to register early. More information can be found at www.worldcustard- piechampionship.co.uk.
