Music festival Fun factor:  Effort:  Money raised:  Music festivals bring in a big crowd and big prots, but take a lot of work! Set a date, allowing at least four to six months for planning. Draw up a rota and delegate responsibilities. Research and recruit local bands for your line-up. Hire equipment such as lighting, staging, generators and marquees. Order catering supplies if you are doing the cooking, or book external catering companies. Sell tickets and promote the event through posters, yers and the local press. Create a programme and sell advertising space to boost prots. Read our step-by-step guide at pta.co.uk/events.

different craft creations. Theme your event around special occasions, such as Diwali or Christmas (you could use this event to generate artwork for your Christmas card fundraising scheme). Charge a small entrance fee and sell refreshments. Have volunteers on hand to provide practical demonstrations, with nished examples on display for children to draw on for inspiration. Ceilidh Fun factor:  Effort:  Money raised:  A ceilidh is a traditional Gaelic gathering that involves plenty of music and dancing – perfect for welcoming new families this September. Book a local caller at least three months before your event. A live band will be more expensive but will add to the atmosphere, so weigh up your options. Choose a space that has enough room for people to dance without feeling cramped. Sell tickets in advance and run a rafe. Serve food during the interval, so people have a chance to catch their breath, mingle with friends, and refuel! Read our step-by-step guide, at pta.co.uk/events.

Pet show Fun factor:  Effort:  Money raised:  A pet show brings together a mix of people and their furry friends! Run a tombola and offer a few side stalls to add to the excitement. Encourage people to enter their pets into different categories for judging, including best ‘rough diamond’ or ‘waggiest tail’ (avoid judging on looks alone). Pets that might nd a trip to school stressful can still take part by being entered into a photo competition – collect images in advance. A range of welfare issues will need to be considered. For guidance from RSPCA, go to pta.co.uk/licences.

Circus Fun factor:  Effort:  Money raised:  Bringing the circus to your school is a surprisingly easy fundraising event to organise and promises great prot potential. Check that you have space for a big top, and that there is no underground pipework on the site. Agree a preferred date (bearing in mind that you may need to book up to two years in advance) and nd a supplier to suit your school size and budget. Decide on your pricing strategy and calculate what to charge per ticket based on your costs. Market the event through posters and yers (most circus suppliers provide a marketing pack), and sell tickets at other school events. Either run the circus as a standalone event or as the headline attraction at your summer fair. Offer refreshments and run a BBQ (weather-permitting!).
