Times change at museum

due to close from February 22 until April 8, and there will be no access to the East Wing from March 14 to March 28, including the second floor corridor to the Glass Room and the temporary ex- hibition area. During the period that the re- ception area is closed, access will be through the courtyard entrance. The temporary closures have
been scheduled to ensure as little disturbance as possible to users’ enjoyment. Annabelle Pearsall, museums operations manager, said: “The schedulewe have devised will en- able visitors to still enjoy the re- warding experience on offer at Maidstone Museum, while com- pletion of the work will ensure that future visits prove even more engaging and enjoyable.” In addition to closures for re-
pairs and installation of exhibi- tions, Maidstone Museum will stop opening to the public on Mondays from March 28. As well as saving money, the closures will allow staff to main- tain and preserve the museum’s 600,000 pieces safely and enable the museum to remain a free-to- visit attraction.
M20 cameras catch drivers
DRIVERS need to take their feet off the gas when travelling on the M20 outside Maidstone. Speed cameras clicked a total of
3,367 motorists exceeding the 70mph limit coastbound between J4 near Leybourne and J7 near Bearsted in 2014, which helped make the borough the second most ticketed in Kent. With 1,160 tickets issued as a result of camera action southbound on the A249 Sitting- bourne Road (Detling Hill), 933 southbound on Sutton Road to- wards Langley and 375 from cam- eras on the A20 London Road, the total number of tickets issued in Maidstone during the year was 5,800 – 1,200 more than in the pre- vious year. The figures are inflated for Detling Hill as the southbound
safety camera was repaired at the end of 2013, so the statistics for 2014 represent a full year of opera- tion and are not directly compara- ble with the previous year. Similarly, during 2013 cameras
on part of the Maidstone section of the M20were not fully operational. Kent and Medway Safety Camera Partnership revealed the figures. Kent’s busiest speed camerawas
at the Dartford Tunnel approach, which clocked 7,637 vehicles. The M20 cameraswere second busiest.
