Nuisance four are moved on
A GROUP of four men who made lifemiserable for their neighbours in Shepway have been drummed out of the area by Golding Homes. Residents had become afraid to
leave their homes after one was threatened with a knife. Now the social housing provider
has taken legal action against the four, in their 30s and 50s, who caused nuisance and were abusive to neighbours after heavy drinking sessions. Five residents attended court to
give evidence at a possession hear- ing against defendant A, outlining the suffering they had endured and the impact it had had on their lives and health. At the end of the trial, the judge granted an outright possession order within 14 days and imposed the full injunction to run for a year. Defendant A has now been evicted from the property and ex- cluded from the area. The housing association had sought restrictive injunctions to curb the anti-social behaviour of all four men prior to this, giving all of
them a chance to change their be- haviour or face eviction. Golding Homes was granted a “without notice injunction” by Maidstone County Court after the first man threatened his neighbour with a knife. After breaching the injunction, he
was arrested, but then subse- quently kept to the terms of the in- junction and found alternative accommodation. He was allowed to return in De- cember when the injunction was lifted, but further restrictions on his behaviourwere imposed. The same month, the three other defendants received injunctions preventing them from contacting witnesses and neighbours, from going to each other’s properties and from being abusive or threat- ening to anybody or causing a nui- sance.
Defendant B later moved out of
the area and sought support for his alcohol addiction while defendant C breached the terms of the injunc- tion over Christmas so Golding Homes and Kent Police took action.
downsmail.co.uk Clare back at pub as boss
A MAIDSTONE mum has fulfilled a lifelong dream by becoming the li- censee of her local pub. Clare Parslow (56) took over at The Dragoon in Sandling Road. She attended South Borough Girls’ School in the town and has worked
in pubs for more than 20 years, after starting out behind the bar at the pub, which is owned by Shepherd Neame. She said: “The Dragoon was the first pub I ever worked in, so it holds a
lot of memories forme. Bar work was great whilemy children were grow- ing up because itwas flexible, and I loved the social element of it, particularly meet- ing new people. “I had always
dreamed of running my own pub, and now my children are older, I thought it was the right time to do something formy- self. When I heard The Dragoon was available, it seemed the perfect opportunity.” The pub, which dates back to the 1900s, boasts Maidstone’s only bar bil-
Geoffrey and Claire Parslow at the Dragoon
liards table. It is open every day from10am to 11pm. Clare says taking over the pub where she worked as a girl was quite daunting, even though she has worked in pubs for years. She said: “I’d never run a pub before, but Shepherd Neame provided
lots of help and I took courses on cellar management and health and safety beforemoving in. My husband Geoffrey has been a huge support, and I have also been made to feel reallywelcome by the customers, which is lovely. It is amazing to finally bemy own boss after all these years.” Shepherd Neame’s director of retail and tenanted operations Nigel Bunting said: “The Dragoon is a great community local and we wish Clare every success in her new role.”
