Wiley Ways and Wisdom

Years ago (more than I care to count), I was a newbie RV’er eager to glean all the RV wisdom I could from friends and family. I got cocky when I felt I had learned it all and as a result I had a number of mis- haps including a disaster at a dump station (the worst kind), getting my motorhome stuck pulling into a gas station – blocking a highway, hav- ing the Highway Patrol explain that I could not stop on the Hoover Dam even if I did think my RV was on fire (with his hand on his gun for empha- sis), among many others.
I realized that the learning process never stops and contrary to my own youthful personal opinion, ap- parently I don’t have an exclusive license on great ideas. Which led to the epiphany that I could learn more if I listened – which helped me avoid a fine in Nevada for washing my motorhome down with a garden
hose – something about a desert and water restrictions… who knew. And who better to listen to, than campground owners and operators who have the benefit of being able to listen to more RV’ers in a season than you or I could in a lifetime. Here are a few bits of wisdom from the basics to the weird and the wonder- ful, all of which will help us all enjoy RVing that much more.
