Stop Wasting Valuable Time In 2016

Busy bodies are not the only

time stealing bandits. Even honorable endeavors like volunteering can get out of control. At one point I found myself volunteering more time than I was putting into my business. While it

is commendable to give

time to promote charitable causes, there should be self imposed limits. Determine exactly how much time you have to donate to charity or even church activities before you begin and stick to your original calculations as much as possible.

BY ANGELA JONES Whether you resolve to eat better,

workout more or further your education in 2016, there is one resolution that can make all of the others easier to attain. There is one thing that most resolutions have in common; they require time.

Unfortunately, another one or two

hours will not be added to each day this year, although 2016 is a Leap Year. There will be 29 days in the month of February of 2016; however, all of the other days and months will remain as they always have with "Thirty days in September, April, June and November..." You know the rest.

Because there is a finite number of

days in 2016, we have to make the most of them. We cannot achieve our own goals if we allow others to monopolize our time or cause us to lose focus.

I recently discovered a

technological advance in cell phone features. There is actually a way to block calls from people with whom you may not want to speak. Now I am not saying that I would ever use this feature but it doesn't just have to be used for telemarketers. I am just saying, if there is a person who only wants to call you to gossip or shoot the breeze when you are on a mission to achieve a certain goal, you can discretely block their number until you have free time for such trivial pursuits, if ever.

I often work from home so I know how one’s family can assume that because you are not at an actual business location, you have free time for their agendas. Anything from babysitting, to chauffeuring, to hosting game night can be the order of the day if you do not set limits. Unfortunately, time spent with family cannot be endless without interfering with the achievement of goals you have set for yourself in 2016.

You may be employed by a

company but you are not required to give them more time than originally agreed upon. There are labor laws that limit the demands an employer can place on your time. Even salaried employees cannot be asked to work overtime constantly. If you think an employer may be taking advantage of your time, seek the advice of an attorney or consult with the department of labor. There should be enough hours in the day to make a decent living and still have time for the interests you have outside of the workplace.

on Entrepreneur.com,

An article that I read recently How to

Manage Time With 10 Tips That Work, suggests one take time at the beginning of their day to plan their day and stick to the plan as much as possible. It's a new year! Get out there and achieve everything you want to accomplish. Dream Big. Make a plan. Achieve your goals. Don't let anyone or anything rob you of your most valuable asset: time. With time on your side, what do you have to lose?

Volume 10 Number 5 Celebration Bowl FROM PAGE 1

Cohen averaged a stellar 13.4 yards per carry.

This is not the first time that Cohen has shown the world his athleticism. Over the summer, he became a viral sensation, appearing on ESPN SportsCenter showcasing variations of the backflip while catching one, sometimes two footballs. His superb performance at the Georgia Dome showed that his talents stretch far beyond backflips.

“We’ve said all along that Tarik is

special,” North Carolina A&T Coach Rod Broadway said while speaking of the Celebration Bowl Offensive MVP. “I guess the nation got a chance to see what we’ve known he is capable of doing for three years now. He had a big game for us, and we needed it.”

The Braves’ continued to fight

back late in the fourth quarter. Alcorn State quarterback Lenorris Footman marched the Braves’ down field and into the red zone with just nine seconds on the clock. On fourth- and-goal

incomplete from the Aggies nine yard line, sealing the Braves’ fate.

“I thought we were going to win with that last drive,” Braves Coach Jay Hopson said. “This has been a football team you can never count out. It doesn’t matter if we’re down 40-to-nothing, we seem to find a way with three minutes to go in the game to give ourselves a chance to win.”

Coach Broadway has instilled

in his team that if something good happens, keep playing. If something bad happens, keep playing. That is exactly what the Aggies did when Alcorn State began fighting back in the second half.

“What an incredible energy

and time with our constituents. Our alumni are outstanding people,” NC A&T Chancellor Harold Martin Sr.

said as he wore the HBCU National Championship hat proudly. “They have supported Coach Broadway, his staff, and our football team and they have responded in remarkable ways. We are as pleased as we could possibly be.”

The MEAC forfeited its automatic berth into the Football Championship Subdivision playoffs for the rare chance to showcase the talents of historically black college and university (HBCU) student athletes on a national platform.

This is the kind of exposure that students athletes

attending HBCU’s

need to take the programs to the next level.

“This is a good opportunity for Footman’s pass sailed

all black colleges,” Cohen said of the opportunity to play in the Celebration Bowl on national television. “If you look in the Hall of Fame, some of the best players come (from HBCU programs). I think it’s good for recruiting purposes.

SWAC Champions continue to battle it out in the coming years. The MEAC and SWAC leagues currently have a six-year agreement to play in the Celebration Bowl. Each conference received a $1 million payout.

“Everyone won today. It was a

heck of a product from start to finish,” MEAC Commissioner Dennis Thomas said.

Celebration Bowl was truly entertaining. There was an immense amount
