Suffolk Workforce Development Center to Host Job Corps

Each class will meet once per month for 10 months at the following locations and times:


Information Session The Suffolk Workforce Development Center will host a Job Corps Information Session on Thursday, January 28, 2016, at 9 a.m. The Suffolk Workforce Development Center is located at 157 North Main Street, Second Floor. Suffolk and Franklin residents, ages 16 to 24, are welcome to attend this free session which will cover a variety of professions including automotive technology, CNA/LPN, culinary arts, electrician, health careers, landscaping, office administration, painting, pharmacy tech, plumbing, welding, security, and more. Attendees are requested to follow the following dress code: Males – button or polo shirt, slacks, belts, shoes Females – dress, skirt, slacks, blouse, shoes It is requested that all attendees not wear jeans, sneakers, or shorts.


If you want to learn more about the Job Corps Program, this is the first step in the admissions process for interested students. Job Corps is the nation’s largest career technical training and education programs for students ages 16 to 24. Administered by the U.S. Department of Labor, Job Corps provides low- income men and women with an opportunity to gain the experience they need to begin a career or advance to higher education at no cost to the student. Bank On Virginia Beach classes can help you take control of your finances and empower you to build your financial security. Enrollment is now open for classes beginning in January.


The classes include instruction on the basics of banking and money management, savings strategies, how to break the crisis mode, how credit works, how an individual’s credit score can affect one’s job, housing and insurance, how to improve credit scores and how to protect against identity theft.


In addition to classroom instruction, participants will be offered free one-on- one financial coaching provided by certified volunteers from local financial
