Transport firm’s £1,000 gift boosts young team
AN AYLESFORD haulage com- pany has given a group of Maid- stone youngsters a leg up on the ladder to sporting success. Castledene Transport, based at Millhall in Aylesford, gave £1,000 to the Maidstone United Rangers U7s, allowing them to buy not only home and away strips, but also footballs, tracksuits, cones, a first aid kit and all the other bits and pieces they needed to get the team up and running. Castledene directors John and
Nicky Amey were approached by team administrator and self-em- ployed lorry driver Mick Hydes and were only too happy to help. Until then, the nine youngsters
aged five to seven had been play- ing in borrowed strip. The team were formed for the
start of the season in September and the boys play in the Saturday U7s Maidstone Invicta League. They play their home games at
the Gallagher Stadium, where they receive coaching from two of the teenagers in Maidstone United’s football academy.
The Maidstone United Rangers Under 7s show off their new strip Although the lads haven’t had
too much success in the league so far, they did win two matches in the Autumn trophy, winning a place in the final, only to be de- feated by Tunbridge Wells Ridge- way Lions U7s. Mr Hydes said:“We had a group
of children who weren’t in a team and saw the potential to set up a new side from scratch. “These boys have been given a
great opportunity thanks to the support of Castledene, and we
want to thank them for their great contribution, allowing these young boys the chance to develop their game and learn to interact with others by following the rules of re- spect.” “The boys are absolutely thrilled
now that they finally have their own kit and don’t have to borrow from others.” The team train on Tuesday
evenings and play on a Saturday. If there is no game, they put in an extra session of training.
