Passed over the Bar: Allan Dennison, Sr.


Allan “Skee” Jackson Dennison Sr., 77 LONG ISLAND - Allan Jackson Dennison Sr., better known as Skee, passed away peacefully on December 9, after a long and hard-fought battle with lung cancer. He was born in Portland on November 25, 1938, the eldest of seven children, to Allan and Anna (Curit) Dennison.


Skee grew up in South Portland and attended local schools before joining and proudly serving in the US Marine Corps from 1955 to 1958. After the Marine Corps he worked as a commercial fi sherman, lob- sterman and mechanic. He had a passion for anything with a motor. Skee enjoyed the lobster boat races, NASCAR and mo- torcycles and spending time on his boats as well as hanging out with family and friends. Most recently he could be found at Skee’s Chevrolet on Long Island. Friends from all over enjoyed his welcoming smile and hos- pitality at the garage. Skee was a member of the American Legion.


Skee was predeceased by his parents, his sister Louise Hodgdon, brother Donald Dennison as well as his son Robert Lee Dennison. He will be greatly missed by his love of 37 years, Betty Campbell of Long Island; his sons Allan Dennison, Jr of Ocoee,


FL, William and wife Caroline Dennison of Ocala, FL and Timothy Quimby of Easton, his daughters Anna and husband Mark Hol- lett of Ocala, FL and Amy and husband Will Tierney of Long Island; his grandchildren include Travis, William, Samantha, Summer and Christy Dennison, Sarah Gurczynski, Elizabeth, William and Emmalee Tierney; his great-granddaughters Abigail and Han- nah Dennison, Autumn Aaron and soon to be great-grandson Justin Gurczynski. Skee was proud of each and every one of his ‘kids’. He will also missed by sisters Sallie Hofmann of Oxford, NY, Helen Coolong of Conowingo, MD, Claudia Lawler of Cheektoaga, NY, and his brother Dwayne Dennison of South Portland. Skee will also be missed by many nieces and nephews and too many special friends to name. A celebration of life will take place on Long Island Memorial Day 2016 weekend. Following the digitization event, UMa- ss Boston will process images and metadata and will provide storage and public access through the University’s online repository. These materials will be included in the Digital Commonwealth and Digital Public Library of America. In addition to UMass Boston’s online repository, the resulting digital collection will be publicly archived


as part of digital collections at the New Bed- ford Public Library, and the Massachusetts Public Library Digital Initiative, and shared as part of digital exhibits on the NBFHC website (currently under development). Those who participate by sharing their photographs, documents, or artifacts will be given a USB drive containing the scanned images of their materials.
