presentations from Dr Bill Kirkup FRCOG, on the lessons of Morecambe Bay; Dr Edward Prosser-Snelling MRCOG, with an update on Each Baby Counts; and Mr Bertie Leigh FRCOG, on the implications for O&G as a result of the Montgomery v Lanarkshire ruling. Mr Tim Hillard FRCOG chaired


two sessions that focused on putting recommendations into action and possible solutions. These sessions included presentations on MBRRACE key messages,


maternal critical care and Professor Danny Keenan from the Healthcare Quality Improvement Partnership (HQIP) on using consultant outcome publications to improve patient safety in gynaecology. In the afternoon, following an


introduction from Ms Carolyn Jenkinson, Head of Hospital Inspection at the Care Quality Commission (CQC), delegates were divided into groups and through a mixture of presentations and team work were provided with an insight into how the CQC assembles evidence, conducts visits and arrives at judgements. This rewarding and insightful day finished with a debate around 24-hour consultant presence on labour wards as a solution to patient safety.

RCOG at FIGO 2015 World Congress T


he RCOG had a strong presence at the FIGO 2015 World Congress


in Vancouver, Canada in October. In conjunction with three other journals, BJOG ran two workshops on ‘How to Get Published, which proved to be very popular. Interactive sessions generated lively discussions around author resources, ethics and the publication process. During the Congress, Professor Khalid Khan FRCOG, BJOG Editor in Chief, held a Core

the ground breaking work in women’s health that the College is leading on and engaged many delegated in discussions of postpartum family planning and comprehensive abortion care. Professor Lesley Regan FRCOG talked


about the Leading Safe Choices programme and best practice papers during her ‘Hard Talk’ interview with Lord Naren Patel FRCOG, and as part of her key note speech entitled ‘FIGO Special Lecture: Women’s Reproductive Rights: The Future’. The RCOG were also re-elected to the FIGO Executive Board, this allows the College to continue to offer our expertise and commitment for improving of women’s health care provision globally.
