Autumn 2015
Chief Executive’s Foreword
CHIEF EXECUTIVE’S FOREWORD
I
t is my pleasure to welcome you to the 7th edition of the LAPADA Art & Antiques Fair in Berkeley Square. This has been an exciting year for the Association,
following our 40th anniversary celebrations in 2014. Having been in the position of Chief Executive for over a year, I can say I have been well and truly immersed in the trade. From visiting members at shops and fairs in London to Harrogate, Maastricht to Petworth, Bir- mingham to Edenbridge, what has struck me is the in- credible diversity of expertise and depth of knowledge – some of which LAPADA has had the opportunity to highlight at our public talks and members’ seminars throughout the year. Whether dealers in antique fur- niture, fine jewels or contemporary art, the thread that ties LAPADA members together is their passion for their subject. To ensure this passion and knowledge persists and is shared with the wider public, we have taken on the mammoth task of developing a new marketplace por- tal on
www.lapada.org, where the most unique and sought-after objects from our network of reputable dealers can be found. The website is not only a place to buy with confidence but also a mine of information on collecting, caring for and decorating with art and an- tiques. To be able to announce this new initiative at the LAPADA Fair is a privilege and a pleasure, and we hope you find it to be a captivating extension of the treasure trove you find within this marquee. Following the success of its inception in 2014, we are delighted to continue The Best Stand & Object Awards, once again generously sponsored by Edmond de Rothschild Private Merchant Banking. It is a dif- ficult task for our panel of curators, collectors, jour- nalists and designers to select the most outstanding pieces and most engaging display, and we hope that you enjoy seeking out these special objects and gaining design inspiration from the stands during your visit. For your convenience and reference beyond Sep-
tember, the Fair Catalogue has again been paired with the Directory of Members: a full list of our members, cross-referenced by discipline and location, together with a list of our approved service providers. This re- source is also replicated on our website, giving you an up to date view of all of our members’ information.
I would like to end by extending my warmest thanks to the LAPADA Fair Director Mieka Sywak, Fair Or- ganiser Emma McVittie and their team for their dedi- cation, hard work and commitment throughout the year to create this event for our dealers and the public alike. We do hope you enjoy this year’s Fair presenta- tion and find inspiration around every corner. On behalf of LAPADA The Association of Art & Antiques Dealers,
Rebecca Davies Chief Executive
