building for education special report ATAG provide lesson in economics
When Keele University decided to replace the heating and hot water systems servicing their IC1 and IC2 science blocks, the key criteria for the new systems were energy efficiency, low emissions and reliability, while achieving the lowest lifetime costs. After a careful appraisal of the various options available, they
selected ATAG XL boilers supplied by ATAG Commercial. Featuring ATAG’s tried and tested 316 stainless steel heat exchanger technology, the XL gives a class leading efficiency of 109.3 per cent (EN677), achieved through seamless upwards modulation and this combined with NOx emissions which ATAG believe to be the lowest in its class makes this boiler particularly environmentally friendly.

Eastwood High School just outside Glasgow offers a wide range of facilities for community use after hours. They wanted a flooring that looked fantastic, would be safe but be very hard-wearing and really easy to clean. They specified Tarasafe™ Ultra from Gerflor; a range of specialist slip-
resistant vinyl safety flooring. Now one year on the flooring looks fantastic and has met up to each and every challenge with the cleaning and maintenance being both easy and trouble free. Installing Tarasafe™ Ultra proved to be the right choice as it offers the safety flooring solution the school needed, providing an easy maintenance solution and hitting the green buttons they specified.

www.gerflor.co.uk University tools up with Kingspan TEK®
The University of Lancaster’s new flagship engineering building is designed to achieve a BREEAM Outstanding rating, thanks in part to the excellent thermal performance and airtightness provided by the Kingspan TEK® Cladding Panel. The building, which has been
designed by John McAslan + Partners, has been awarded a BREEAM interim score of 85.8. The Kingspan TEK® Cladding Panel was bolted to the building’s concrete frame and forms the structural backing for the facility’s brick facade. The Kingspan TEK Cladding Panel comprises OSB/3 facing either side of a fibre-free, insulated core and can deliver U-values of 0.20 W/m2.

AET has recently been specified to provide an underfloor system for the new Sixth Form centre at Sir William Perkins School, Surrey. The AET Flexible Space system was specified by consultant; The Brinkfell Partnership, and an underfloor supply, high level return system (CAM-V) was selected for
maximum flexibility. A total of two zones within the Sixth Form centre will be cooled by CAM-V33 downflow units, with conditioned air supplied into the space by thirty one (31) TU4-AC standard fan terminal. Users will have personal environmental control of fan speed and temperature by using adjustment features of the Fatronic controller integrated into each fan terminal unit.
