Doing simple math, this would mean, technically I could stay in bed until, at least, nine. Parents reading this can laugh now. Starting at about 6 a.m. every morning massive amounts of noise permeates my household. One of my favorite sounds, and it never fails to bring a smile to my face, is the one where one of my kids or my wife yells, “Be quiet. You’re dad is trying to sleep.”
Healdsburg, CA. ~ I believe in the conspiracy theory; no, not regarding Kennedy or King. I’m talking about a real conspiracy. I’m referring to the conspiracy that prohibits a parent from sleeping late.
I have this fantasy of having some type of helmet I can wear to bed, a helmet that will keep out all sound. My wife’s work schedule is such that she and my oldest daughter are out the door ev- ery morning before 7:30 a.m. That leaves the little one and me home. We don’t usually have to be anywhere until 9:30 or 10.
One morning the dog wouldn’t stop barking. So I heard three different voices, at three differ- ent times yell, “Stop barking!” The last shout being so loud the dog jumped up onto the bed on top of me.
Even if I had a helmet that would be able to block out the sound, it still wouldn’t help. I can see it now, one of my girls would come over and knock on the helmet. “Daddy you awake in there?”
