In the shear bond strength test according to Watanabe the adhesive and the composite is brought on the substrate (diameter 5 mm). After storage in water for 24 h at 37 °C, the test specimen is pulled apart to rupture and thereby measure the strength. High adhesion values indicate a good bond between adhesive and tooth material. This is crucial for a good hold of any restoration
