Parking plan for school

A PROPOSAL to reduce parking problems in Sutton Valence is to be put to the head of the village school. KCC officers and representatives, parish councillors and school gover- nors met after Marianne Terry, head of Sutton Valence Primary School, decided to close the school car park to avoid congestion, asking parents to drop off and collect their children from the village hall.

Some parents had already been using the hall car park, but the new ruling has meant up to 100 extra cars trying to squeeze into a car park de- signed for only half that number. The parish council has been told by its insurers that it would be liable if there was an accident.

Speaking after the meeting Eileen Riden, chair of the parish council, said: “We discussed a range of op- tions, but with no funding it seems there was only one way forward, which is for parents to be allowed to drop off and pick up the youngest year 1 and year 2 students from the school, which would leave about 30 free spaces at the hall. We hope the head teacher will agree to work with us on this. After all, if village hall clients cannot park, the hall will lose business and will close, which would be a loss to the community.”
