Discover Headcorn
A VIBRANT village with a historical past, Headcorn has
developed and moved with the times.
Situated in the rolling Kentish countryside eight miles out of Maidstone on the A274 road to Tenterden, the village became prosperous through the medieval weaving industry, as reflected in the beautiful buildings of that time such as the Cloth Hall and the enlargement of the parish church of St Peter and St Paul.
Nowadays, the High Street has an interesting selection of independent businesses including shops, pubs and places to eat and drink, making it the perfect place to stop and browse, have a meal
or a coffee and enjoy wandering around.
Just outside the village is Headcorn aerodromem, which lies on the Biddenden road . First used in the 1920s, it served as an advanced landing ground for Canadians and then Americans in World War II. Today, it is a busy centre for pleasure flights, parachuting, hot air balloons, helicopters and the Lashenden air warfare museum. The airfield has helped to raise millions of pounds for charity as a site for sponsored sky-dives and also hosts special events throughout the year. During the Battle of Britain weekend on September 12 and 13, a stunning array of model aircraft, ships, tanks and other vehicles will be on display at the Southern Model Show, creating a fun and family-friendly event.
